Follow this link to the 2017/18 Winter Order Form. We seldom “sell out” of available shares, so we are happy to prorate the share price if you want to start anytime in mid season. Just email Lisa and let her know you’d like to start. We’ll calculate the prorated price and you can bring a check to the next pickup.
We are proud to provide certified organic vegetables that are fresh cut, like mesclun mix, arugula, hakurai turnips, and bok choi, all grown in our own greenhouses on our own farm, all winter long in addition to our storage crops like cabbage, carrots, turnips, potatoes, etc.. For us it’s about really fresh and really local.
One of the wonderful things about growing vegetables in the winter is that we are not dependent on the vagaries of the weather. If it’s cold, our heating system keeps the temperature just right. If it’s dry, we can make it rain gently until the moisture is just right. A really cloudy winter can slow things down a bit, but that’s not usually a problem. For these reasons, the “share” that you receive in the winter is more consistent than it might be during a difficult summer. As in the summer, we do our best to even things out, but still the offerings will vary from pick up to pick up and from year to year.
Pick Ups – Pick ups are twice a month from late October through early April for a total of 12 pickups. We pick the dates each year to avoid holidays, school vacations, etc, to make it as easy as possible for everyone to get their share.
Times – The farm pickup is on Wednesdays from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The Portland pick up is on Wednesdays at Drummond Woodsum in the third floor parking garage elevator lobby from 4:00 pm until 6:30 pm.
If You Can’t Make It – If you can’t make it to pick up, please email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will make up a bag for you (farmers choice of vegetables) as long as we have received your email by 8:00 am on Thursday. You can pick up the bag in the barn at your convenience. Or you can take up to half of your share extra at subsequent pick ups until the pick up you missed is made up.
In Laughing Stock Farm’s Winter CSA you can count on getting the full value for your dollar every winter.
Pricing – We offer three share sizes in the winter. We try to keep prices as low as possible. We are holding the prices this year to be the same as last year.
Large share will get about 11 items for $475.
Medium share will get about 9 items for $390.
Small share will get about 7 items for $310.
Egg Share – We will be selling the eggs on a first come first served basis this winter, just as we did last year. We don’t do an egg share in the winter because egg production is always less reliable in the winter. We will be doing a flock change-out this year so we expect there to be a production interruption as the new flock begins producing and the old flock goes in the freezer early next spring. Oh yeah, that reminds me that there will be frozen, vacuum packed, stew chicken available for sale next spring and summer while they last.
