    Laughing Stock Farm, Freeport, Maine

Staff

We had another GREAT crew last year, and we needed it!  We increased our production considerably through some new equipment, more efficient practices, but mostly just great working relationships.  We have more people coming back this year than ever, including one who has been away for a couple of years.  The work is hard, hot, dirty, and often wet; so we feel really good when people want to come back.

Gail "I Love Dirt" Taisey, has been with us for seven years now.  She is our only year round employee and can do anything we need done on the farm.  Gail took a brief hiatus last year and worked at a coffee roastery, but she's back now, and we are all much more well versed in coffee varieties and types of roasts and blends because of her.  We all consider this to be very important because above all, a farm runs on coffee.

Raina Rippel, pictured in center, was back for her fifth year, and finally worked full time for us.  Raina is currently living in Pittsburgh, finishing a degree in city planning.  We hope she'll come home to the Portland area when she graduates.

Maggie, our oldest, is off at college in San Francisco, majoring in textile design.  We miss her, but we're pretty sure she's found her calling.

Will, our middle child, worked full time for us this summer.  Will is truly an amazing employee. After working part time for us for several years, and can do most of the tasks on the farm, and actually enjoys many of the jobs that Gail and Lisa hate.  Will is currently a Junior at Freeport High School and just got a part time job for the winter on, get this, another farm.

Katie, our youngest daughter, would much prefer that this were an animal farm, but manages to have fun anyway.  She's been promised chickens and two baby goats for the summer, so we hope that will help.
