    Laughing Stock Farm, Freeport, Maine

Laughing Stock Farm is a four season, certified organic farm located in Freeport, Maine serving the restaurant, retail, and consumer markets from Portland to Brunswick.  Four season farming in our 17,000 square feet of greenhouses allows us to provide fresh, local produce to restaurants and retailers all winter, while our eight outside acres rest and rejuvenate for the coming April.

If you are a consumer interested in purchasing our certified organic produce all summer, visit our Community Supported Agriculture or "CSA" link at the left to see how you can buy your farm share, examples of weekly deliveries, and check the "Products" link for pictures about the less typical varieties.

If you are a restaurant or retail establishment in the Portland to Brunswick area interested in offering our certified organic produce to your customers, visit our "Wholesale" link at left.

Owner’s Statement

Ten years ago I started “farming” on 1/5 acre.  I didn’t sell much, but it was enough to start me expanding, which I’ve continued to do every year since.  This summer we will manage a total of 10 acres.  Our quality organic produce coupled with your commitment to purchasing fresh local vegetables has built our business into a sustainable farm that will be able to serve you for years to come.  Since many of our customers have never had a chance to visit our farm, we’ve decided to bring our farm to you.

Service

A cornerstone of our business has been to stay in contact with our customers to make sure we are providing what our customers want.  We are committed to providing specialties that might be difficult to get otherwise, along with the more popular produce.  Some examples include the heirloom tomatoes mix, romano beans, and lollo rossa lettuce that were so popular this past year.  We continue to expand and adjust our product line and length of availability to meet our customers needs.

Quality

For ten years our commitment has been to provide fresh, tasty, beautiful vegetables.  We stand behind our product.  For the first few years we concentrated on building the soil back to optimal fertility and expanding our knowledge of varieties and growing techniques.  Over the last few years we’ve added irrigation to the fields and a walk-in refrigerator to assure that the product is beautiful in the field and stays that way from the time it’s harvested and packaged until it’s delivered.  Photo courtesy of Russell French.
