Senior Farm Share
Laughing Stock Farm participates in a program managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture called the Senior Farm Share Program, which is made possible by a grant from the USDA. In this program, a limited number of "shares" are distributed to Maine vegetable farms. Farms sign up for the program in February and find out how many shares they will be allotted. Then, during March and April local seniors sign up with Laughing Stock Farm to take advantage of the Senior Farm Shares on a first-come-first-served basis. Once the Seniors are in the program they are eligible to receive a total of $50 worth of fresh local vegetables over the course of the summer growing season.

Pick up for the Senior Farm Share is at the farm on Wardtown Road on Thursday afternoons between 2 and 7 PM with our regular CSA. Unfortunately, vegetable delivery to the senior's home is not available from the farm, but may be available through your church or local seniors organization.
As part of your share, you can select vegetables from those offered to our CSA members. A card is kept for each participating Senior to keep track of the value of the vegetables received.
If you can't make it to pick up on Thursday, we will make up a bag for you as long as you let us know by 8am on Friday.
Over the course of the summer you will have a chance to choose some of everything we grow to try in your favorite recipes. You will receive the same high quality specialty vegetables that we grow for chefs at some of the finest restaurants in Portland. Depending on the vagaries of the weather, some years end up being great for broccoli, or bad for lettuce, and the products that will be available to you reflects those differences. We do our best to even things out, but the availability of vegetables will vary from year to year.
Please follow this link to download our Senior Farm Share Brochure that details the eligibility requirements and a chart showing what vegetables we grow and when they are available.
